ABOUT US

HELLO… and welcome to our website.  Our names are Scott & Margie Hanly and we are the owners and founders of 5-0 Ride-0 Transportation.  Please take a few minutes and read our story of how this unique idea for a business came about, but first a little about our family.

Margie and I have been married for almost 26 years and, like most people, we have gone through a lot during that time.  There have been a lot of amazingly good times and even some tragic times that we hope to not repeat… it’s called “doing life” together.

Margie and I only have one child (we don’t have a spare), our go-getter, non-stop, overcome-every-obstacle-that-is-in-her-path with reckless abandon and get-to-the-other-side, daughter Alexandria… who has now graduated with honors from Oakland University and has recently moved to a warmer climate to start her new career as a police officer… she SO does not like winter and loves where she lives now!  We do miss her very much, but we are also very thankful that we get to see her fairly regularly… Margie gets to see her more than I do right now… but that’s okay because we all know that she will always be “Daddy’s Little Girl” and while we are based in Michigan, we do have plans to expand 5-0 Ride-0 Transportation to her state, and others, at some point in the future!

As a couple, both Margie and I really do care about people and the real struggles that every single person and family has.  Because of the many challenges we have faced throughout the years, it  has given us a real desire to help others.  Both of our heart’s desires is to be in a financial position to be a real blessing to people and to have the ability and the resources to help alleviate at least some of the stress we all undergo in life from time to time, whether that is with time, talent, money or other resources. Call it philanthropy or whatever you want but we want to SEE the impact on peoples lives, even if it’s just to put a smile on someone’s face (because, we certainly do need a lot more of that).  We want to be able to help real people with real struggles in a very tangible way.  This is something we have wanted to be able to do for our entire marriage and there are many plans coming in that respect.

I (Scott) among other things, have been a corporate geek for several years.  I have been involved in a few primary fields including several different areas of the transportation industry for quite some time.  I have spent the better part of the last 30 years doing what everyone does… go to work – pay the bills – spend time with family & friends – eat – go to sleep – wake up & repeat (oh yeah, don’t forget the coffee!).

Margie has done many things in the past, everything from being a business owner, an Interior Decorator, a Personal Organizer, a church founder and leader in Phoenix Arizona to multiple positions with various companies, mostly doing what she loves most… working with people!  Margie is my “Super Woman” because while she was working full time (or close to it) for the majority of the 25+ years we have been married, she never took her eyes off of her most important job, being there… available and raising our daughter, Alexandria!

While 5-0 Ride-0 Transportation is a new and different concept in publicly accessible transportation, this is not the first time we have done this.  About 12 years ago we started a transportation service in the Denver, CO metro area called “Colorido” (pronounced Colo-RIDE-o). The name was meant to be a play on words between “Call a Ride” and the name of our state of Colorado…  to come up with the name “Colorido”.  That company was also a taxi service that used  a limousine and in a very short time (primarily by word-of-mouth), it became incredibly popular in the Denver area.  Everyone that knew of us would call us first, before any other taxi service because… hey, everyone loves limousines and if you can get one for the same price as a regular taxi cab, why wouldn’t you… right?

With all that history behind us… on my 52nd birthday in 2023, I quit my 8 year career in “Corporate America”, where I earned a fairly decent income, I cashed out of all of my stock in the company I was working for, cashed out my retirement savings and leveraged it for our own company and we revamped the business that we had owned in Colorado 12 years prior to start our new company 5-0 Ride-0 Transportation.

While this is going to be a very similar business to the one we started in Colorado, it will be much better because this time, we spared no expense or time to make this limousine as nice as it is… and it is really, REALLY NICE!  We purchased the car from a private owner in Memphis Tennessee because every limousine we looked at in the northern states was rusty, beat up pieces of garbage.  After scouring the country, mostly in the southern and southwestern United States, we narrowed it down to 3 cars, one of which was this one.  We chose the one in Memphis, primarily because even though it needed some work and TLC along with some “mystery body work…”… as a brand new Towncar, it was built into a limousine by a very reputable Coach Builder in California and had been used as a private limousine almost it’s entire life… and only had 73,000 original miles on it… WOW!  A 19 year old limousine with only 73,000 miles??? That is unheard of… it was a no-brainer… we HAD to choose this car.

There were a lot of unknown challenges that we would face during the 3 1/2 month long restoration on this car.  We spent in excess of $30,000 to make the car right – inside and out.  We did significant engine and drive-train work and extensive body work on the car, including a complete color change to a deep blue.  I had never seen a blue limousine before.  When we decided to do the color change (instead of yet another black or white limousine), I gave the color palette, with about 30 or so colors to choose from, to both Margie and Alexandria and said… “Pick your favorite 2 colors…”.  Without any of us knowing what colors the other 2 were going to pick… all 3 of us picked this particular shade of blue.  At that point, it didn’t matter what other colors we each chose… this was it!  Please see our RESTORATION page to see some of the pictures of where this car started and what it looks like now.  Everyone that has seen it has been very complimentary of the final product.  It really is the prettiest limousine I have seen… and I have seen many over the years.
